Rossett School Students show their caring side
Sixth Form students from Rossett School in Harrogate have been making friends with the older generation, thanks to an initiative that sees them visiting some of the town’s care homes.
One group spends time at Heath Lodge, on Pannal Ash Road, twice a week to read poetry and short stories, while Food Technology students have enjoyed discussing what kind of food residents ate when they were younger and learning more about their diets in days gone by.
As a result, they’ve put together a selection of recipes which they plan to publish and will also recreate to share with those who inspired them.
“We think it’s very important for our students to be part of the local community and it’s lovely that they genuinely enjoy spending time with the people they’ve met through this initiative,” said Mrs Pat Hunter, Rossett School’s headteacher.
“The experience is a valuable part of their further education studies and also a great way of promoting understanding and friendship between the generations.”
